Our story began in Ottawa in 1988 when Chuck McDonald, a father and a police detective in Ottawa's burglary unit, noticed the unsettling reality that the same homes and businesses were being broken into repeatedly. Upon looking into this, he discovered that the security industry was charging exploitative rates, making protection inaccessible to all but the wealthiest. 

Chuck founded Shanalex Security to help protect his own family and friends, naming the business after his two sons. More than three decades later, and now under the leadership of Chuck’s son, Alex, Shanalex has grown into one of the most respected security companies in Ottawa.
